Patrick C. Meehan
Raised in Wexford town on the south-east coast of Ireland in the late 1950’s, Patrick (also known locally as ‘Con’ - short for Cornelius), relocated to Dublin with his family, aged 12, and completed his secondary education on Dublin’s tough north side. In his early 30’s he relocated to Ipswich, the county town of Suffolk, in the UK.
Although raised in a family of renowned Gaelic footballers, as a young boy, Patrick opted for the ‘foreign’ game of ‘soccer’. He was also a bit of a ‘scrapper’ from an early age, having boxed as a schoolboy for Aidan O’ Sullivan’s, CBS Wexford and he also studied karate in the mid-1980’s with sensei Pat D’Arcy, at Greystones Wado Ryu Karate Club in County Wicklow.
Patrick played schoolboy football with the now defunct Wexford United F.C., and schoolboy and youth football with Dublin’s Drumcondra-based club, Stella Maris F.C. (the same club that produced one of Ireland’s greatest midfielders, Johnny Giles).
After a trial, aged 15, with Arsenal F.C. - and having won four youth international caps for the Republic of Ireland in 1975 - at age 18, a promising football career was cut short by a serious spinal injury sustained during pre-season training with League of Ireland club Shelbourne F.C.
Having spent a career writing and working in the financial services industry, Patrick eventually found time to put together his account of a visit to the USA in the fall of 1982, when he was a guest member of a south-Dublin amateur football team playing exhibition games against selected colleges and universities across New England. This adventure is the primary source of Pork Chops On The Left Hammer, and although the work is described as a ‘work of fiction’, many of the events described actually occurred.

Patrick gets a lot of his inspiration on the road, and has travelled in extensively in India, Nepal, Peru, Tanzania, Zanzibar, the USA, Turkey, Europe, and throughout the UK and Ireland.
